The best thing with Africans is to either have a lot so they can't establish their own territory or provide enough space that they don't feel threatened. Most choose to pack them tight.

I ve got tons of rocks and drift wood in a 6 foot 125 gal tank with 4 juvenile bichirs. They ve got both space and a lot of holes and rocks to make it comfortable. And it's been a few months with them but every 2-3 weeks I rearrange the rock formations and add new shaped rocks to the tank and remove others so that the territory's don't get established. Also keeps me from getting bored. I did this with my 65 gal tank as well except changed scape every 4 months as it was 90% planted and just stacks of drift wood leaned on hidey hole decor. And dug out trenches.

I totally agree with BIG-G BIG-G on everything that he stated. Also like to add with the mix of males and females the males will fight for dominance and unfortunately there will be deaths. I have 4 African Cichlids in a 180 gallon and they still find a way to get into squabbles.

Well there won't be any deaths by squabbling in my tank (cross fingers)! Lol I'm very proactive so if I need to add more females or rocks or remove and rehome then I will. Only deaths im willing to accept is if my bichirs eat someone when they get larger. And even that is something I will work hard to avoid. I work from home so I get to keep an eye on my tank all day. My tank scaping isn't nearly complete either as I plan to plant some of the plants from my 65 gal into this tank. I ve got large thick amazon swords and would like to add 2 of them into this tank. I will definilty post up a pic of my tank once I reset the scaping as I ve dug it up to switch out the clear airline tubing to the black ones and installing longer airstones.

Looks to be an OB hybrid of some sort. Mine looks very similar and was told it was a hybrid

OB which stands for Orange Blotch is a hybrid. That is where the color patterns come from. To my knowledge OBs do not exist in nature. They are all man made.

The Orange Blotch name can be miss leading because it is applied to a lot of color patterns some of which do not even have orange on them.

Learning more n more by the day. And now that you say this the entire stock of mix cichlids where basically these but this one was the most blotchy and contained the brightest orange with cleanest black blotches. My alunocara has made himself comfortable and swims peacefully with my mbunas and demasoni and jewels the OB is a bit more of a loner but will occasionally join them and feeds without hesitation. I ve began treatment with feeding them food with metro and will do so every other day for about 2 weeks. I would have quarantined them in my hospital tank but I have 4 mbuna fry in there at the moment.
