he tiger shovelnose catfish is 5' in length and STILL growing(all of you should re-consider that little catfish you think can fit in your big 500gallon longterm, you have plenty of other fish to choose from)
but TLkmDN since you have it in a pond, yours will quickly catch up to ccdoido's!

according to the man himself

There are hundreds of photos available online just look them up under the scientific names - one of my favorites is Pseudoplatystoma corruscans, I think that most of you are considering that TSN's come in one size only but there is a difference in each of the version of TSN's and they can range from 2' all the way to 6'+ (Necrocanis has mentioned a photo of a 7' monster in an asian aquarium) I also have seen personally almost 6' that an MFK members house (should they decide to get involved in the conversation then it's their choice, but since they have laid low about their stock and aquarium I won't out them ;) as judging by the Monster tank owners like John PTC I don't think he wants that attention or I'm sure there would have been a killer article of the build since I know there are LOADS of pics of it...(HINT HINT If your reading ) )

You'll notice that there are alot more photos if you simply take the time to look them up my the proper names, it's kind of like trying to look up a gulper as "catfish with a big mouth" search LOL

i get that, but i don't want a bunch of internet photos, i want some actual acounts with the true monsters, i want to know if any public aquariums have some huge ones, i get that there are a lot of internet pictures, as i originally said that is exactly what i was attempting to avoid, i'm looking for info more than internet pics because live accounts are much more telling than those pics

I'll throw in my 2 cents. I've never heard of or seen pictures of a TSN (pseudoplatystoma tigrinum of fasciatum) over 48", I have however heard and seen pictures of pseudoplatystoma coruscans (Pintado) the spotted TSN getting closer to 6ft. In person I've seen TSN's pushing 36-40" at an aquarium in Italy and another in Bangkok. Here are a few pics of the beasts I've witnessed as well as the biggest pictures of a Coruscans I found. The pic of the man holding the Coruscans by my best guess has to be a minimum of 5ft even if that man is very short, I'd say that fish is about 65".

Piraiba are the only SA catfish that commonly break the 6ft mark. They are babies at 4ft still :) ~Trent
