TSN LOG: START TO FINISH

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright well there was some some progress, he consumed the smallest feeder out of the four I got for him.
He also ate 1 ghost shrimp.
That brings his total up to 2 rosys and 1 ghost shrimp in 4 days... Should be eating much more

Did a water change today of about 20%.
-during this he seemed much more relaxed an calm.

Some of hiss color has returned, but he is still relatively whiter since I Purchased him

Going to try beef heart again, also chunks of market shrimp. we'll see how this goes...

I found some species of catfish get very pale if they are kept in light or clear bottomed tanks, I guess they're trying to blend in or something. Maybe some decor like caves or rocks would help him settle down? I know its a Q tank but it can't hurt to have a little bit extra in there.

ya...Goig to put a solo cup in there for a hiding spot and see if it helps.

He has really regained his color in the last couple hours

tsns will lighten and darken acording to the substrate at all sizes...they realy aren't hard to keep...clean water, high filtration, good food...convert rather easy off of live...be ready for a monster...the main killer of these cats is tank size and lack of filtration...i lots a few small ones to predation due to a lack of the ability to wait a month...thats how long it took my others to get big enough to go into the big tank...mine when from 3.5" to 22" in 5-6months

Im hoping this guy grows that fast...

I have a TSN and RTCxTSN that are about 17 inches now that i got from a good online source, but I have had 2 under 3 in. that i got from a LFS that seemed to die within a week after purchasing them.

Yes, given you have the means to provide for them they are relatively hardy

Its just those little guys from LFS that have given me difficulty

was the filter now already cycled? why is the water cloudy i would suggest testing it, and yeah those cats of yours are def going to out grow 400g, cant wait to see build thread when you start building pond for these guys:headbang2

they are sensitive to ammonias so if your dealing with a lack of filtration it could be an issue...mine grew that fast with 84-86f pristine water and a constant supply of food, wc live, worms, shrimp, chicken/ turkey gibblets, fish fillets and a few other thing they weren't supost to eat...eg bala shark, gouramis, suction cups, ect, ya know all that big cat food...

filter was already cycled in another tank I was cycling.

Ya I built the 400 gallon from instructions on here. Once my bigger cats reach around 24" im going to start a pond going as we have a shed in the yard that would be great for it.

The water was cloudy because i missed a chunk of beefheart caught on the heater last nite.

Ammonia isnt really a problem as i make partial water changes throughout the day cuz i have nothing better to do in between classes

Well he ate 1 more rosy and shrimp this afternoon.

Offered him bloodworms and market shrimp today

Put a towel over the tank to try to get him to feed. pretty sure he ate some bloodworms but didnt gorge himself like I want him to do.
-didnt even look at the shrimp

Did the evening water change, this time 30% of tap treated with prime. Put a buffer in there just to make sure the PH is sittin at or near 7.0

-Kinda spooked him when i was changing the water good thing he's not in a glass cage

heres an attempted feeding: no interest really, whiskers started goin crazy though...

Well last night he consumed about 2 or 3 rosy's and some ghost shrimp. I also put some market shrimp in there and didnt get anything close to a response.

Color is much lighter than yesterday, but has no other issues than that.

Decided to not change the water and really have not even been to the room he's in for over 24 hours, kinda interested what has happened when I get back tonite.
