Im still getting ammonia readings after i changed the water about 40% treated with prime

How can I get rid of all of it?

Ive done everything possible, but i still cant eliminate it for some reason

you need to get him in a larger tank. that will help with the ammonia. also feeders produce alot of ammonia.

Put him immediately in a 20g+.

Alright... Tomorrow im going to get a 10 gallon tub and see how that helps.

No offense but a 10 gallon tub as a "larger" tank for a TSN is a horrible idea. That fish should be in a 55 gallon or larger even at 5" so it has adequate swimming space and also to keep more constant water parameters. I'm sure it's spooked constantly with a bare bottom and no driftwood to hide under or around. IMO transfer that fish to the larger tank asap and add driftwood/gravel so it isn't so skiddish all the time. Also 80% water changes are never a good idea it uses too much new water. You shouldn't be changing more than about 50% at any given time. The pot never caused the ammonia spike that would have been entirely from the decomposing feeders. Try frozen blood worms to wean it off live food. It's worked for me in the past. If you have any real questions about them feel free to ask. I've kept almost every shovelnose species from South America that is available at sizes up to 30".

^ i agree.

im using a 30 gallon grow out for my 3" tsn, then going to a 125 ASAP, then when he gets big enough he is going into a pond.

but my tsn ate flakes and frozen shrimp the first night i brought him home, and then ate pellets, beefheart, white larvea, flakes, and shrimp to date. and he is always nice, fat, and happy. i just mix up the meals every week, so they never get the same thing twice a week, except pellets and flakes.

You do realize that adding prime into the water is a crappy idea don't you, prime is a water conditioner that is to be used before you add the new water to the tank, not to be added to your main tank directly. It removes ammonia nitrite and nitrate but also kills the benficial bacteria colonizing your filter material.

I kinda was interested in seeing this thread, but you seem to be having way to many problems with your setup and technique. This thread is more like a what not to do with your TSN. Good luck

eating great, so no problems at all

water params are perfect, and is now taking massivore very well
gee, i wonder why.

I put two large female guppies in that were going to burst with fry in the next couple days,

but the TSN had different plans and somehow consumed
