TSN= Tiger shovel nose. Tigs are sometimes called Zebra Shovel Noses. IMO neither truly look like tigers.
However, take a look at this guy:
tell me this doesnt look like a tiger...
Cause that's not a tig...

i know... its flash tig. different species. Im saying it does look like a tiger though.

Flash tig? what the hell is that?

Its a brachyplatystoma juruense.....

Common names are just that, common. You have to go with what the most people are using to avoid sounding like an uneducated fool. Go ahead and call Tigrinus a TSN, but don't be surprised when people look at you funny. If someone came into my store and did that, I wouldn't take them seriously for a minute.

You don't have to be a scientist to figure out that common names are a royal PITA. Be safe and stick to scientific names. Otherwise the majority, or common fish keeper, will keep thinking you don't know what you're talking about.

common names again... it's funny how this discussion comes up every couple of months and still no one reffers to the old threads...

"Flash" is refered to Juruense as well, but from a different river like a few miles away or something, its usualy more like a tig in colour, some argue its just the same fish, some say it is in fact different.

But that picture is of a juruense, cant put "tig" in the name, no such fish as a flash tigrinus, they are already "flash" :P

Isnt flash tig a form of welding?

Hey... if someone came into the store and said I'd like to Order a TSN and you did, could you charge them TIG Prices if they thought a TSN was a TIG?

God I'm starting to get as annoyed with this topic as i am with those stupid automated Phones Systems, you know the ones..."Thank you for calling XXXXX please listen to the options and select the best one, For 1 push 6 for 2 push 9 for 9 push 1 " :irked:

can you tell I just called a Customer Service

Nah automated phone systems are easy, just hammer random numbers and it confuses the system, so it just puts you through to a person right away :headbang2
