I have a 12 inch tsn/rtc hybrid and have been feeding him turkey hotdogs because they're cheap and he loves them. I was wondering is this healthy for him or is there another cheap solution?
thanks guys

Feed him things he would normally find in the wild (i.e., fish). Fish fillet, squid, and shrimp, silversides, Massivore, Algae Wafers, Aqua Stable pellets, etc. I know it's expensive to feed these big cats, but that's part of the deal. If you want one, you have to feed him, and you should feed him things that aren't full of fat and spices and won't congeal in his stomach, causing constipation.

they don't eat turkeydog's in the wild... I suggest massivore pellets, shrimp, bloodworms and food for FISH...

How do you feed a fish which is a foot long bloodworms?

i have massivore also i feed him both, but i was wondering if i could feed him the dogs as a filler on offdays.. if not its no big deal ill feel him whatevers best, but you can understand me trying to cut the prices as much as possible. thanks for the advice

well, i guess its good you came on here for advice, are you new at keeping fish? i dont mean to be rude or discourage you from seeking advice in the future but this is the story that gets me so freaking mad everytime i hear something like this. the other people suggested great foods to feed your fish, but may i suggest you try to find an appropriate home with someone who knows what they are doing and has done the reasearch required to really own one of these amazing animals. ALL the food you could ever need to feed your fish is at your local fish store, and at the most, some shrimp from the market or smelt fillets, it couldnt be an easier problem to figure out, PLEASE find an appropriate home and appropriate owner for this animal, because, it is not you

At least he/she asked. He/she could have just kept feeding the hotdogs and not given a crap. I agree that not all fish get the best care, but that's what this site is for. No one is born knowing what to feed a gigantic catfish. Granted, he/she should have already researched prior to purchase, or at least before the thing got to be a foot long, but at least he/she is doing it now. Hopefully, he/she has got appropriate housing planned (OP, if you're not sure, check out the catfish stickies and DIY sections), but for now, the OP is doing more than some people do. Don't beat up on people who are at least trying to do right -- save that for the ignorant ones who refuse to care appropriately for their animal, even though they know what's right.

You mash them up, add a bit of water, frezee, then serve!!!

Like suggested before feed fish fillets or something like that. A friend has some large cats and he said he buys paiaya mix from Sams club. 5 lbs for 10 bucks. It has fish, squid, shrimp etc... I know feed ing those large cats is expensive. If you can't afford to feed him correctly maybe you could stick to some of the smaller cats. They are still very cool.

I think I mentioned the negative effects of feeding turkey dogs in my post.
