Turnover ratio

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I consider a ratio of 6 + to be good 10 very good and.....16??? well I think it is excessive(also would depend on your bioload) but anyway I dont think that may hurt your fish neither tho unless that produces a lot of flow that may bother your fish and stress them out in some way.

Cheers.

I only have 2 fish in there so I'm not too worried bout the bioload..
The current from both the powerheads does seem fairly strong but I think that's good exercise for fish.. :grinno:

I donno mate, maybe I would just keep one of your filters running, 16 of turnover ratio is too much for just two fish, they need to do exercise but they need to rest too.

IMO an AC 70 is not enough filter when it comes to an adult FH. You'll wish that you had upgraded to an AC 110 as the fish matures. Big fish = big turds. On my 90 gallon I have two AC 110's, which has worked out perfect for a large single fish, and that's with weekly 70% water changes.

That fish is gonna be in a 55 gal so i guess an AC 70 would do, however if more filtration is needed I can install an inner filter to help AC out but not now, maybe as fish grows, now he's roughly 5".

Anyway i have already bought the AC 70, i spent 56 bucks in it, AC 110 was 105 bucks, too expensive...

If $$$ is an issue then I guess that's your call. IMO when dealing with strains of fish such as FH that in many cases are genetically prone to a weak constitution the better the filtration, and the higher the water quality via large regular water changes, the less chance that one will have health issues with the fish. I tend to view FH as I do designer discus, for best results they need a bit more TLC than your average fish.

^ I found some on amazon ac70s for like $35 and ac110 for $55. That was awhile ago though.
If its a 55 run the ac70 with the included sponge and the factory bio media and top it off with more bio media.

I know what you mean but look at koky:

He's been growing quite healthy and every time he's getting more bulky and pearly, there are two filters doing the work as I explained in the first post, I scoop his gravel 1 or twice a week and perform weekly WC of 30% on average.

If my AC 70 gets short on the job I can install the inner filter to rise that turnover rate to 8.

What do you think?.
