No kidding, it actually passes through the cloaca!

What are the regulations for keeping native Fauna in Australia? Be kind and post some of your own photos and info.

Yeah, it does. Quite amazing really!

Regulations are quite strict in New South Wales. Queensland is pretty easy going compared though. A standard reptile licence will let you keen any number of standard non-venomous reptiles and two special class (endangered). I have maxed my special licence out having the two Mary's and will have to upgrade to a licence which lets me keep any number of endangered reptiles for an extra $200.00 per 5 years. I will need to upgrade soon, I will be getting a painted turtle (pink belly).

I will post pics tonight. What info would you like to know?

why would the algae be bad for the turtle?

The algae does not harm the turtle at all. If it were a captive turtle it could be a sign that the owner did not care for it very well.

Because the Mary River turtles have the ability to breath underwater, they spend most of theire day on the bottom of the river, or clinging to the side of submerged logs not moving much at all causing The algae to grow on them much like it would a rock.

Well, photos of them, their tank/pond, what you offer as diet...

Photos will come tonight.

I am feeding them on Hikari Gold Pellets. They contain everything a turtle needs in its staple diet. They also get live freshwater shrimp, mussels, and crickets.

They are only hatchies at the moment and are in a four foot tank. They will be good in there for a couple of years until I need to move them into either a bigger tank or a pond. They will eventually get to this size of Travis here (theire Dad)
