Sure its been disscused before, but for old times sakes, what kind of substrate (if any) does everyone use in their aquatic turtle tanks? do you vary the substrate with the type of turtle? just want to see all the different opinions

if they got a good filter, prob. sand, if not then they go bare, or small river rocks gravel

if your filter is good but not too close or strong to suck up the sand...i like sand...large smooth riversotnes work well too...

bare with some stones and pieces of bogwood.

bare bottom. floating fake plants and some small rocks

Right by small rocks i mean stones. not pebbles.
Use rocks bigger then the turtles head. VERY IMPORTANT!!

I really like the big river stones, they're flattish and like 2" in diameter. I want to get some more for when I set up their bigger permanent home; right now I only have enough to do about a 30G tank.

I use pebbles for my musk, and have used them for a lot of my turtles in the past. People mention turtles eating them and becoming impacted, but I have never known anyone personally who has had this happen. I got my rocks from the local creek, filtered out the really big ones with wire cloth, washed out most of the dirt and sand, and put it in the aquarium. It's as natural as natural can get.

I use roughly 3/8s pebble for all my turtles I have used sand and silt and very very fine pebbles
