I got a new baby yellow slider a day ago. It's roughly the size of a quarter. I was wondering if it would be possible to introduce it to my 75g with a 10 inch electric catfish and some other fishes. The catfish is very calm and eats NOTHING but earthworms. However, it occasionally shock its tankmates, though never strongly, and only when they steal his food. The reason I want to do it now is because I want turtle to recognize fish as tankmates, not food before it grows up. It's not nippy at all yet, so would it still be risky?

I would let him grow allitle so he can develop as a strong swimmer so he can live in the 75 but then you should give it a try. I want to do the same thing when I get my baby turtle as well good luck

Putting a turtle in with a big fish won't make it "learn" that fish are not food, that is instinctive to them. They are opportunistic feeders, and will try to eat what they can.

They can be kept with small, fast, schooling fish in some capacity, but the occasional one will go missing from time to time. Putting them in with big, and potentially dangerous fish like your catfish is a bad idea. Your turtle is small and fragile, I'm sure an electric cat would have no trouble killing it either by eating it, or accidentally shocking it.

Does your catfish tank have a solid lid? Generally, fish keepers have lids to stop the fish jumping out, but this doesn't work for turtles. When they bask, they need dry air to prevent fungal problems and respiratory infections. In a fish tank with a lid, the air is very humid, and the turtle can succumb to such health issues.

Best,
Paul

As others have said. Do the turtle and your fish a favor and set it up in an appropriate tank by itself with the necessary basking spots, uvb lighting & filtration.

I have a spare 10g tank.. he's living in it right now. However, I still want it to be able to mix with my tropics when he gets a bit bigger. When I try it, Ill monitor them closely to see if there's trouble. If anything happens, Ill separate the turtle and get him a appropriate tank.
