Turtle

I've wanted to do this for the longest time. My vision would be to lower the water level around 5-6 inches below the top, and install a nice looking rock platform for the Turtle. I've been working on constructing a covering-of-sorts for my HOB filter with rocks to channel its flow into a waterfall.
Even got a hammer-drill to put uniform holes in the rocks. Sliding a nail into the holes basically makes it like playing with Legos.

Excuse my splurge of off-topic writing above.

As to your question, I find a lot of mixed answers. Certainly the fish must be large, but I read that depending on the Turtle, you may still end up with dead fish.
The filtration point made above is absolutely true though. Turtles make Pleccos look constipated by comparison.

I know some people do it, but I would advise against it. I tried mixing a red eared slider and an Oscar before, and the Oscar terrorized the RES. They were about the same size and the Oscar would constantly attack the turtle. Plus the bioload of the turtle will be a lot. You will need a big tank to house large cichlids and a turtle. Plus most turtles require a place to dry off and bask under a light. This takes away from fish room (decrease territory space for the large cichlids) which can cause aggression.

Really? Id always heard it was the other way around generally. Turtle taking chunks out of, or in some cases flat out killing the fish.

In what way did the Oscar terrorize the turtle? Thick skin, shell and all, how could a fish hurt it?
