Turtle

Really? Id always heard it was the other way around generally. Turtle taking chunks out of, or in some cases flat out killing the fish.

In what way did the Oscar terrorize the turtle? Thick skin, shell and all, how could a fish hurt it?

It depends on the size. If the cichlid is big enough to be food it will be, but a large cichlid might not like it in the territory. This was a 13" Oscar and would bite me if I put my hand in the tank. The RES was about 8-10" long (shell). RES aren't aggressive to fish other than wanting to eat them. The Oscar didn't do any real damage to the RES but terrorized it. The stress on the turtle isn't good. The RES was afraid to get in the water and wasn't eating. I was also tired of doing water changes everyday so the RES went back to a LFS. If you are talking about real LARGE aggressive cichlids I would imagine they would be worse than an Oscar. I will never do that again.
Other people might have different experiences but that was mine,

Depends of the turtle and the cichlids. I used to keep my juvenile stinkpot with large cichlids and they eventually got bigger than him and then tormented him. He now lives with smaller cichlids (Jewels and Kribs) and he rules the tank, he leaves the fish alone and they do like wise. When I had painted turtles they would chase down and kill and eat any fish regardless of size. So it comes down to size, size of tank, type of turtle, and type of cichlids IMO
