Turtles in BareTanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
TLkmDN: Thanks for the advice. I'll probably re-think about getting a softshell then..
hey i have a mud turtle that used to be on the floating dock but ever since I got a submerged rock he ignores the floating one.. What can I do to get him on it again?

Oddball: Yeah I thought about getting those turtle blocks but I'm afraid my turtle will eat it.. Can I stop worrying about that issue?

loconorc: no, my guy is really messy and would clog up the filter in days..
and it makes the tank water oily too..

varanio: the site doesn't work..

Turtles need better filters than (most) fish. You don't need a feeding tub, thats an old, outdated, unessecary practice used by giant snake owners back in the 80s and 90s when herpkeeping wasnt as... practical.

Haha... giant snake keepers. If I transferred every 7'-11' boas I had under my care to a feeding tub and back, I would be covered in scars.

Either way, most of the mess come from his wastes, not necessarily the food.

Just get a better, higher grade filter or build a wet/dry and a sump.

hey what's a wet/dry filter? I heard about them on BIG tanks but..

Thanks Irish, you put that pretty well. :) I'm not as good at explaining things sometimes as I'd like to be.

Lmao, if my friend put his green anaconda in a feeding tub everytime... WHOOOOO!! xD

thanks!

does anyone know how to work wet/dry filters?

Why didnt I suggest waterland tubs!!! D'oh!!! I knew I forgot something I wanted to say! :duh:

im sorry the website for the tubs is www.waterlandtubs.com

Wow, those things are awesome, a little expensive, but still a really great idea! They would work well for most small to medium sized aquatic turtle species. I like that the land area has depth to it so you can have a place for egg laying. Thanks for sharing!

i checked the site, looks pretty cool but I think it be cheaper if you build one yourself.lol
they have bigger pre-formed plastic tubs at Home Depot.

and I'm more of a tank(look at the turtle nose-to-nose) guy so..
