Turtles in BareTanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sometimes its not what you like best... that works best for your animal. I dont want to be rude, but I think when we purchase adopt etc any animal or pet, we assume the role of mother nature and we are the providers of their habitat and diet. I think we owe it to them to provide what is best for them more so than what looks good, its a responsibility we bring upon ourselves. Cheers

happiness better than looks i guess..
do i have to buy the tub though?

as stated it was a personal opinion which is what you asked for. Throw it in a tank if you wish or make a tub yourself as a cheaper alternative. Just remember the turtles happiness is in your hands. It wont talk to you, but it will give you cues as to it's happiness/discomfort.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

alot of chinese turtle breeders use bare bottom tanks and have had plenty of success doing so.... with that said if youre going to provide bare bottom you better make sure you just dont have a turtle dock for it .... give it some land space as they deserve it and use it quite often......tanks suck for turtles in my opinion I use www.turtlelandtubs.com for my spotties and they are great!

I cannot open the site, Alex.....:(

try the site a few posts after that one

I keep my turtles on a barebottom as they were ingesting the gravel. I do weekly 60% water changes and have never had a problem keeping the good bacteria levels up. Been doing it for months and have yet to get an ammonia spike.

what kind of gravel were you using? tiny ones or those big ones?
