i was wondering if anyone has ever put water turtles in there fresh water aquariums. My LFS has some red eared slider turtles and i was wondering if i could put them with my fish. right know i have a silver aro, a oscar, a JD, and some cory catfish with a large pleco in a 120G (48x24x24). would this work?

not advisable..spoil water, tend to eat fish, poo a lot, will scratch the fish and unduly stress them....

Ditto...

Like Miguel stated, adding turtles to a fish tank is not a good idea. Unless you have a HUGE fish tank for the fish to escape the pursuit of a hungry turtle. Even a Fly River Turtle will take a chunk out of a fish.

Matamatas for example can only be kept with BIG fish. Anything else is down their vaccuum mouth, but they dont have beaks. Unless you can get the perfect size ratio and a big enough tank with great filtration, yeah.

Only thing weve managed to keep with american turtles are big bluegill. Aint for long, snappers in with em!

Yeah, the only fish I've been able to keep with my turts is a BIG blue gill (and he OWNS them lol!).

Ihave a 75 gallon tank ,I have a Epainted turtle he is about 3" in shell size I have 2 convicts 2 "small" oscars 2jd and 5 tiger barbs Im just kepping him in there over the winter and faten him up to go into pond .People tell me its too much for the fish and he will eat everything and kill the water well I do regular water changes and and get my water tested every week and my water is perfect every time . I keep him well fed . I made a basking spot for him so I dont have to keep the water level low . he does not bother the fish at all just in a curious way .I relize there is that chance but Oh well .the trick is to keep him fed .I only recomend this w/baby turtles anything over 5" will defintley mess with other fish and water "too much waste " I will post some pics when I figure out how

Anyone here keep plecos with their turtles? I want something to clean up after my Stinkpot and eat algae in his tub. He shows no interest in feeder fish but would a resting pleco spark his interest? There are also plenty of places for a small species of pleco to hide.

Plecos generally do VERY little to help with algae, if anything they encourage more to grow with their constant defecating! Occasionally you might find one that will eat a lot of algae, but it's just luck of the draw. The turtle may or may not pick on a pleco, you wont know 'till you try it, and like I said, the pros of a pleco in this case or almost nill. Soooo..... I probably wouldn't bother, just clean the algae yourself.

Thats true, not all plecos do a good job with algae clean up. My one Hypostomus is an excellent algae eater but my Bristle-nose just hides all the time.
