Two bar bass?

WHY is it impossible to wrap one's brain around the idea of a female Cichla keeper that got into it of their own accord? REALLY? It's like females are incapable of coming up with an idea of their own outside the influence of a close male counterpart.

Anyway, buy the hell out of that two-spot.

Huh? Im just curious coz its relatively rare to find a female predatory fish keeper here in my country and just simply asking an honest question... I just said female cichla keepers are awesome! I would ask you the same question too but if you feel offended im sorry!

nope im not sexist at all and i dont think like what you may think im thinking :) its just really cool to have
A female counterpart talking about cichlas and im not being sarcastic or anything close to that.. Of course you guys can get hooked with cichlas just like us fellas here, didnt say you cant on your own accord, thats crazy hehe

LMFAO Terrible :grinno:

Haha watch out for this guy ^^^ he's a troublemaker.. LOL JK Darboy is a good guy and has a ton of nice cichla. He owes us some updates! ;)

BTW nice 2 spots.. I'm going to be the odd man out and say that they are probably monoculus/ocellaris hybrids. That is usually what all 2 spot cichla turn out to be. 2 spot orinos will usually have 3 spots on one side and 2 spots on the other.

Cichla are aggressive fish. There will always be one bully of the group and one will always be what everyone calls the "whipping boy" or the "runt" of the group. This is a hierarchy that cichla form and it is best to keep them in groups.

He has two spots on one side and three on the other we shall see! I just thought he was interesting looking

PS: the joke is that with (more) female pbass keepers around, it means you have to put up with PMS, if we wanna roll out the tired sex stereotypes. ;)

Hahaha pms is a given girl, kinda figured you were gonna say that hahaha just wanted to be clear first hand didnt mean to offend anyone. Oh yeah throw away the stereotype. But ya'll have to put up with something called "small talk" as well haha

Talk about derailing a thread or :topic: I guess I'm included in that too :hitting:

One of us! One of us! One of us!

Chelsea, keep up updated on that lil critter. I'm extra interested in seeing how it progresses, since you mentioned that it's got different spots/bars on either side of its body. :)

Lets see/hear more about ur bass and tanks. That way we can not only judge you as a cichlA keeper but as a girl as well :). Jk. But really...more of ur fish and tanks.

Honestly I'm scared to post about the fish or tanks I have cause I know everyone is going to tell me how they need to be in a 400 gallon tank but I'm a college student, I have a crappy part time job and I'm doing the best I can. In my opinion they're better off with me than in a tank at an understaffed pet store starving and overcrowded. Anyway, I have 4 bass, a tiger oscar, an albino tiger oscar and a tire track eel. I got them all in the middle-end of September. They're in a 45 gallon tank right now and a couple weeks ago I bought a 125 gallon tank for them. The oscars eat whatever really.. Problem is that they're bigger and they actually WILL eat whatever so they're growing faster too.. Pellets, meal worms, blackworms. The bass and eel only eat live blackworms. Not really concerned about it cause they're little and I just want them to grow and get the other tank set up etc. Anyway I attached two pictures... I don't know why they uploaded in that orientation but the first one is a nice lil shot of my oscar being greedy and eating a zillion meal worms that he can't even fit anymore in his mouth (he was still trying to though anyway) with the bass of course hanging out too and then the other picture is pretty much the clearest picture I have of any of the bass other than the two spot.. It was taken probably two weeks ago. That's also the biggest bass and he is sorta lame. He is definitely the palest out of all of them but we'll see I guess. I just really love watching them all together. I don't know why people hate on oscars so much? I guess they tend to look kind of decrepit when they're older but their personalities are hilarious and the way they interact with the bass is funny too. The bass are just tough little dudes and constantly fight with each other (which sort of pisses me off and always worries me) and the eel is so endearing too. All the fish go after him but he's not really too scared, the biggest oscar tried to go up to him and the eel just got right back in his face. Oh there is also a crayfish in there too that my boyfriend got from a creek in the area.. Figured he could eat some crap off the ground. There used to be a handful of crayfish in there but they're slowly getting picked off. One morning my boyfriend and I were looking at the big oscar and he had a couple of scars on him and of course I was like "Oh no!!" And my boyfriend pointed out the skeleton of a crayfish so not really sure if a duel ensued and the oscar reigned supreme... The remaining crayfish is getting to be pretty big though, even he knows when feeding time is but anytime a fish gets too close he backs up into his little hiding spot.

Apologies for the rant, all of my friends think I'm a weirdo for caring about fish so figure might as well share it with people that understand.
