They were sold to me as reds and that is what I believe they are. I've also seen a German website with two pictures (see my avatar) that look exactly like mine listing them from Peru. You can see in the top photo how much red they often show on their cheeks and also some of the other shots show the reddish that runs along their forehead back throughout the dorsal area. Basically from the whitish stripe in the dorsal coming down they show red, fading into yellow, then to green. Sometimes when their vertical banding is strong they show the yellow really nicely. I think it is difficult to pick up all the color because my camera is not the best and the blackwater (trying for a somewhat natural Amazon kind of look) combined with my funky plant lights don't put the full spectrum on the fish. When sunlight comes in at the right angle and these girls are in a good mood their colors look really impressive.
Anybody other than Taz have a male? These fish are too cool for none of us to be trying to breed them... I'd love to raise some all the way up from fry and see all the color stages they go through.
If someone else has a male please either sell him to me or make me an offer on one of these girls and let's get some captive breeding going on. I haven't seen anything other than wild cinctas ever offered and even then they are hard to come by.
