Two Headed Pike, not a fake

I sent the photo to my college prof. and he said it is probably real. I trust him on just about all matters fish related so I'll go with him.
 
is the bottom one dead?
 
I have seen several "twinned" salmon fry but most do not make it to smolt stage, one that lived long enough to get to 2" was one fish that turned into two fish just behind the dorsal fin, I think the pike could easily be real.
