Two year old mauled to death by five pitbull mixes

Unfortunately, their traits are what it makes the pitbull more dangerous and powerful dogs if put in wrong hands or people with no cluen .
i agree, this can be said for any dog but more so for powerful breeds

It's true that Pits weren't bred as pets but most dogs weren't either. Originally dogs where working animals, guard dogs, hunters, bull baiting(not exactly a job but you know what I mean) and herding dogs the list of jobs goes on. Only true companions that I know of(meaning they where bred originally for the sole purpose of being a pet) are some of the toys and other small dogs(not all mind you). Dachshunds for instance where originally bred to pull Badgers(a notoriously vicious animal) from their burrows. Their are other small dogs who you'd be surprised how much latent aggression they have inside them that we bred into them to serve our own purposes which can easily surface when the dog isn't treated properly with the respect they deserve.
I owned dachshunds and raising cattledogs and believe me, it's impossible to breed the unwanted traits out of them. Most happiest pitbulls I met were hog dogs in Texas.

things like this just happen... wrong time wrong place.... wat we do is move on forget bout it and try to prevent it happening again even tho it probably will.

Once again, they were small dogs....I don't see anyone getting mauled by a Chihuahua at any time.
Here's a link where a 6 year old girl was attacked by a chihuahua http://www.kptv.com/story/21313261/pack-of-chihuahuas-attack-little-girl it happens way more than you might think. Just because small dogs aren't killing(I don't know that for sure but giving them benefit of the doubt) that doesn't mean kids aren't maimed by them all the time. It just gets little press because people get more worked up hearing about pits and rotts and it increases views/sales. Also at 2 if this chihuahua had attacked this kid or if the group did the result may have been similar. Most dog fatalities happen to kids and yes they happen with Rotts and Pits but another interesting fact is the deaths are usually from a group attack, suggesting it's not as much the breed being inherently dangerous as much as those who are attracted to the breed are inherently irresponsible. I mean if your keeping packs of dogs and then not watching your kid what do people think will happen, it's just a shame that mentality of irresponsibility seems to be prevalent in Pitt and Rott owners, just my opinion. Oh and so no one misunderstands I'm not saying all Pitt and Rott owners are irresponsible just that it seems to be more common than not.

exactly, but its always easier to blame the dogs and the media has a blast making bull breeds into serial killers

yes i agree... there have been alot of deaths and maulings by many breeds of dog.. but unfortunatly the majority of time.. pitbulls live in situations where there is a below standard of living.. kept mainly as quard dogs that never have socialition and attention.. kept in packs or on chains... you are what you are taught or treated like.... if kept in a warm loving environment the same breed excells in loving situations and loyal kindness towards humans.. this goes for all breeds.. but pitbulls are kept in these unloving conditions alot more.......

i agree but we should NOT forget things like this, things like this should really make people think long and hard about getting any powerful dog....well any dog really but like MN_Rebel said i have yet to hear about a death by chiuahua's. i've been around pitbull that were with people i know were responsible and they were sweet dogs but i have also seen pitbulls that were in the wrong hand and have actually attacked me when walking my dog.....so yeah i'm not against pitbull far from it i want to buy an american bully but i have many years of experience with dogs and semi powerful breed such as german shepards , boxers and bull dog mixes and that's something alot of people don't have
