Thanks for reading Frank. I'll post a good update tomorrow with current tank specs and such.

They fill the space out nicely, I wouldn't even feel bad about dedicating the whole tank to the pair. Nice work with these guys, if they spawn it will be a great achievement.

Thanks. If they do spawn, I plan on selling the other two. IF. One can only hope.

From my understanding F1s can be much more tolerable of water conditions. If they spawn it would certainly pose some interesting possibilities. Did the group start as 3+2-1(rip)? I forget now.

Subbed!-)

Yes. 3+2-1. I'm not sure exactly how tolerable f1 fish are. I've heard the same, they can withstand less than ideal water much better. I don't think one generation away from wild would turn them into oscars.

Oscars even after thousands of generations are really not more tolerable. They will easily get HITH if water is not clean. F1 fernandezyepezi are the same. I had a group, and though they grew like weeds and acted fine, they got HITH in my harder water. So you'd still need to keep the F1 in soft, clean water.

Agreed. My question is, would the water have to be just as soft as I have it now? Tds is about 35. Or do you think f1s could handle some mildly hard water? Say Tds of 150.

Current tank specs:
Temp 83
PH 6.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5
Tds 35
They are getting 1 gallon of peat tea with every water change along with two bags of peat in one of the canister filters. In this soft water, the peat has made a difference dropping my phone from 6.8 to 6.2. As the pH has dropped, I've noticed much more pairing activity in the large pandas. Going to do another water change today and see if I can take tds down to about 25.
