Uaru fernandezyepezi spawned

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Peter, looking back at your last egg picture, it does appear that maybe they weren't fertile to begin with. They look very similar to my first batch of Heroina eggs after two days, which were laid by two females. They had a similar white, almost puffy/spongy look. So here's hoping it's just an inexperienced/young male and that he gets it right soon. The good news is that they've spawned once, and they'll probably be inclined to continue now that they've started. *fingers crossed*

That is sweet.....Peter, I have a sincere request, can you please make a vdo of all your tanks, I have been following your channel for some time now.......awesome job and I love all your tank setups....

I'm fairly sure the other one in the pair is a male per the shape of the tube. I'll try to catch them in action next time. Maybe I should remove the othe ones from the tank...I'm too used to keep groups.

Maybe let them spawn a couple more times before doing that. If they aren't bonded and you move them, you may end up with a dead/beaten Uaru. :(

I had a nice pair of turquoise sevs that spawned once and raised fry to a few weeks old in a community tank, so I decided to isolate them to their own tank. The male immediately tried to murder the female, and even after I let her heal and reintroduced them together in the community, he sought her out and attacked her. I was never able to put them back together after that. Uaru probably have the capacity for being just as fickle.

Thanks! I just moved and am reorganizing. There will be 6 show tanks (500 panda, 300 celido, 225 altum, 220 leopoldi, 220 Geo, 90 discus) and a fish room or smaller tanks (125s and under). Have all the tanks already. Just waiting for 3 stand/canopy set to get built so everybody can move into their respective homes.

I think I need to understand their psychology a little more. I haven't spent enough time looking at them lately. The Uaru sp. "orange" you sent me a few years ago bonded quickly and it wasn't hard to get them to spawn. These guys shouldn't be too different....just have to figure out what they are thinking, lol

You'd be surprised. I found my pandas to be way more aggressive and active than the amphs. Considering what you've seen, and some of the damaged fins in your videos, it looks like they're already pretty rough with each other. If they're anything like discus, these early days of spawning may be more about trying out compatible mates. If they were satisfied with each other they may spawn again, if not they may split up and re-pair with other fish.

The funny thing about the orange Uaru is that they bonded well together even when they weren't spawning. The two I kept acted like a pair but were both males as far as I could tell. They just seem to appreciate the company of other Uaru. My pandas were never very much like that.

Actually the fin damage wasn't from fighting. They came in with it, and it never healed. They never fought until the recent restructuring, and it was limited to lip locking. Very fierce though, judged from the severe lip injuries. In other words, they only fight to establish an order and, once one party doesn't want to fight anymore, that's the end of it.
