Haven't posted for a while. Happy to be back with some good news - my Uaru fernandezyepezi spawned today :) Looks like a very small brood and I don't necessarily expect it to work the first time, but I'm pretty happy nevertheless :)

I really didn't do anything special. Some of you old timers may remember I'm blessed with soft tap water - it comes out of the tap at pH7 but drops to about pH5 in a day. The Uarus are fed romaine lettuce, pellets and frozen worms. Temperature is 80F. 90% water changes weekly.

Posting some videos below. There are more on my youtube channel.

This is from May 9th, 2012, when I received 18 from Mark Chen (Discus Origin, a vendor here). They were about 1.5" at the time.

9 months after receiving them. A social hierarchy formed, with the biggest one bullying everybody around.

Not much was going on for a year. We moved 3 weeks ago and I took out all the driftwood, etc during the move.

A few days ago there were some major development - a pair formed, and the big bully got beaten up badly. He/she basically lost most of the jaw and died soon after.

It was pretty obvious that the pair like the left corner, so I dropped a couple of rocks there. Fortunately one was chosen as spawning site :)

That's all :) I didn't expect them to spawn now. I'm waiting for a stand/canopy set to be finished for their future home, a 500g (96x40x30). The metal stand can't fit through my door :(
