Can they hold their own with other cichlids or would they need a species only tank? Also are they super sensitive to water params? They're hardly ever seen in the hobby but look pretty cool.

they are great fish but you need to keep the ph low
you need to buy them big or you will probably lose them
they can hold their own they are a very strong fish they used to beat up a 10inch siamese tiger fish in my tank
they dont like big water changes which is why i got rid of them in the end
they do better in groups of 6 +
i had them for 1yr+ they are not fragile and i had them in with rays tigrinus cat aro flagtail and geos
if you buy them at 6inch + they are ok they may lose the slim coat when shipped but dont panic just bring the ph up slowly mine came into the UK at ph 5.5 over the space of 2 weeks they were in a ph of 7.0 and spawned in that ph but the rays ate the eggs

Thanks for the replies. I saw a few WC's for sale (3 for $500.00) and I was thinking they would look awesome adding the 3 of them in with 8 IT Datnoids, a few non agro cichlids, and some bichirs. I think I'll pass now. T1Karmann, thanks for the pics...very nice.
