I posted this here as this seems to be where the more advanced hobbyists hang out. I'm thinking of ordering some of them from Don but am hoping for some info from people currently keeping them. Please let me know. Don says they do fine in higher ph like 7.2 but that he's only had his for a week. Thanks in advance!

I kept them at 5.5-6 and they spawned for me. they may be able to live at that ph but did not chance it.

I'm hearing they'll do fine in 7.0 or so but to spawn get them into the mid 5's or 6.0. I have a 100g I can dedicate to them till they outgrow it and I can lower the Ph in there fairly easily. Anything else? bloat prone? diet? etc?

I don't know about doing fine in a PH of 7.0 They are very prone to ick and other illness and hard water or high PH amplify this a lot. If you keep the at 7.0 and you have any little bug or your water is not kept perfect you are going to have deaths of HITH.

I've not kept them but from what Jeff Rapps has said the F1 fish are much less picky when it comes to pH when compared to the wilds.

I've heard that too. Biggest difference unfortunately is price. Don's are much more affordable. Like it's not even close! I think I'm going to try them out. Have some trade credit coming my way so i'm not spending anything additional or out of my pocket. Rare cichlids are always a gamble!

Are Don's F1 as well?

Nevermind, just checked. How can Don sell wild one's for 30% the price of Jeff's F1's? Doesn't seem quite right.

Wholesale verses importing from Germany.

I ment to say deaths or HITH in my post. Not deaths of HITH.
