i was advised by my lfs no discus due to uaru being very aggressive feeders. and i must admit i do agree with her. my blue acara is doing very well. just make sure that your uaru are at least 3 times the size as acaras will take any opportunity to bully. my first one was a beast and beat up my GT.
i suggest dwarf cichlids,
blue acara (nice colour contrast),
angels,
a peaceful GT (yes it can work i have done it),
kribs (african but hey there are some nice regional variants out there like nigerian reds),
keyholes,
rainbow cichlid (Herotilapia multispinosa),
sajica (i was advised),
and the obvious sevs, peaceful geos.
remember that uaru arent as soft as people would make you believe. they are no heavy weight fighter but can show others who is boss if they need to. the uaru need to be larger than possible tankmates so they are boss due to their possible softer nature than other cichlids to ensure they dont get bullied. just my opinion and i may get shot down in flames by someone more experienced with uaru.
Barley pop has been very helpful to me with my uaru.
