So do laws in canadia a work differently? Pretty sure here you'd still go to trial and with a record like that probably go to prison.

Laws are much different here. I know lots of repeat offenders, who have done worse and still walk the streets (once in a while lol). From what I understand about America is 3 strikes and your out?..

The United States has an almost uniquely punitive and unforgiving justice system, hence it having the largest prison population in the world, far beyond even a significantly more populous (and unapologetically authoritarian) country like China. Most other developed countries' justice systems have far shorter sentences and a lot more opportunities for second chances.

They didn't "disappear", they just didn't show up to testify, and didn't admit to having been intimidated, which is what was implied in that video, and like it or not, without any evidence to support a charge of witness intimidation there's not much the justice system can do, and by this point the statute of limitations is up on such charges. (That's a thing in all common law countries such as the US, the UK, and Canada)

Maybe, maybe not. I'm not a lawyer, and even if I was Canadian law differs from American law, so I have no basis to say whether or not the implication of having gotten out of a serious assault charge through witness intimidation is plausible. If you are a lawyer or have a relevant legal background, I'll defer to your expertise but otherwise you don't really have any more of a basis than me to discern whether this is a plausible story or not.
