Why U. amphiacanthoides on the left, because of the spots?

All of the U. amphiacanthoides I have every kept or seen at smaller sizes have had a pattern like the one on the left, U. fernandezypezi have the vertical pattern usually with some rare ones having almost no pattern at smaller sizes.

To the OP, those are some beautiful fish, I just wish U. fernandezypezi were easier to find and not to touchy with shipping.

My fernandezyepezi looked nothing like the fish on the right when they were small. They were dark grey fish with cream-colored dots. I never witnessed this color stage during their growth. Maybe this is a very young fern?

I agree. I also highly doubt that there are pet stores selling unkown fernandezyepezi as expensive and rare as they are. I would guess that the fish on the right is just an odd coloration of a regular Uaru inbetween changing to adult color.

OP, what were the fish sold as?

So which one is the panda ?

Glad I am not the only one going down that path. OP, was one of them sold to you as a panda? I can see why others are saying fernandezyepezi because of the vertical barring just based on odds alone, it's more likely to get your hands on a unique pattern amph as a juvie than a healthy panda. That is unless you purchased it as a true panda hence all the questions. ;)
