Udon, Soba, and the Noodles

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Took a few photos of Soba last night but since I'm due for a WC today it's dim in the tank (d/t floating plant proliferation.) I really need to get some better current pics of him.

When I first got him in Mid-Jan. 5.5-6"

He hasn't gained as much in length, similar to the ropes - more girth. He's grown about 1-1.5" so far. He is my shiest / slowest poly eater. When I drop in food, the ropes and the Polli go to town immediately. Then the Del, and she will keep searching until full. The Moke waits, then gets a bite or two. Then hangs out. Then looks for some more.
All of the other polys just kind of keep on searching for food until full or it's gone. No one else really takes breaks like him.

These aren't great but I am sure the Polli will surpass the length of the Moke - she has a huge appetite compared to him. I can also kind of see how Mokes are more closely related to ropes than other Polys per Josh'sfish's species post.

Your tank dynamic is absolutely fantastic! I'm loving the hand feeding videos too! It's great to see Macaroni and all 3 ropes now being so eager to eat. That is cool that Soba and Udon do their own things though. Udon seems very gentle and Soba seems very chill :) What a nice mix of personalities.:)

Yeah, thanks - pretty happy with the tank right now and mix of 'personalities'. I wish I had something more interesting for the mid-level other than the congo tetras but it is how it is, and my polys keep me happy and interested. I also really like the butterflies, too. I'll just have to be patient. :)

Congo tetras are cool, yet I understand wanting something else for mid level. That seems to be the hard thing to do; to find something that is compatible with the large polys. Do you think in the future you'll do cichlids? I think I read you mentioning heterospilius and severums a while back, but could be wrong.

Smaller distochudus will make interesting and somehwat biotypically correct. They like plants though

Yes, I'd like some more peaceful cichlids when I upgrade. Especially Polleni. :)

I thought you meant they liked plants as in enjoy them, but you mean they eat them! Yeah... not the best match. ;)

Polleni and peaceful don't always go together...

There are many barb species and the likes originating from Africa, may be pricey though.

Unfortunately due to the large amount of native barbs we are tightly restricted on others from the continent :(

Most of the time from what I've read Polleni play nice except other dark fish or conspecfics. I've not heard of them bothering non-cichlids that are big enough to not be snacks ...

Of course cichlids will be cichlids, so you never know. ;)

maybe that's the key. I have only had brief experience with cichlids so I can't really say too much.

I would love some congos but the price is a little ehh

As someone who has actually kept them, I can tell you that most of the time they are relatively peaceful as far as cichlids go. I kept mine with angels
