UFC 129 - GSP vs. Shields

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm SO damn excited for this. I love both Shields and GSP and I keep going back and forth over who I want to win, but I think I'm rooting for Shields...at least at this point. Realistically, though, if I was going to put money down, it would be on Shields because it would pay out a lot. It's just really hard to think that GSP can lose, but Jake is the guy if it's going to happen IMO. F*** the Pacquiao "fight", lol.

It's really overshadowing the Aldo fight, but that one has the potential to be ALMOST as good (I'm biased, lol)

GSP had to cut major weight and then put 20lbs right back on. Could be an interesting factor. I know a lot of fighters do that, but I've seen plenty of instances where it backfires. As a fighter gets older, it gets harder to maintain that lighter weight.

Someone mentioned they didn't know a lot about the WEC. I'll take the WEC over UFC any day. Those lighter weight guys are lightning quick! Lot of stand up as well as ground and pound.

Aldo is an absolute animal. Saw him KO guy about 10 seconds in. Ran across the ring, threw a flying knee and game over.

Georges St. Pierre vs. Jake Shields - GSP. This is one of those where you start to over-think it, and since GSP is a big favorite you start to let the thought creep in that Jake might pull this out. I'm not gonna let that happen to me in this fight. GSP is far superior in striking, and on the ground I'd call it a wash at best. I know Jake is very skilled on the ground, but nobody controls the mat like GSP with a mix of wrestling and JJ. GSP will win this, and will look good doing it.

Jose Aldo vs. Mark Hominick - Really looking forward to Aldo in the UFC. This could be a close fight, but I'm going with Aldo to show up on the big stage.

Jason Brilz vs. Vladimir Matyushenko - Brilz over-performed once, and I think he got rewarded for it. The Janitor is tough, but just doesn't have much to offer right now.

Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida - I think Machida could really pick Randy apart in this one. We know Randy is going to try and close the distance, but his striking is average, and so is his speed. Lyoto is also very good at evading takedowns, and getting to his feet quick after a takedown. I like Lyoto to tag Randy on the way in for a takedown, and put him out.

Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson - Henderson.

Nate Diaz vs. Rory MacDonald - Nate, I guess.

Jake Ellenberger vs. Sean Pierson - Ellenberger is one of the guys I really think is at a point where he can take the next step and be potentially great. He has had some setbacks, but I think he has real good ability, and has a shot to be very good. Looking for a decisive win for Jake.
I agree with this. GSP should win soundly, but Jake does have a chance. I'm not discounting him by any means, just stating GSPs dominance.

I would guess Shields cuts just as much weight as gsp if not more. I've never seen the cut bother GSP in the least. I did see Shields last fight against Martin Kampman where the weight cut most definitely had an affect on Jake.

Forget the GSP-Shields fight. Aldo will own the night, that's for sure.

Not in Toronto, he won't. :D

This will be GSP's night and UFC is counting on it to make inroads into the Canadian market.
