sometimes i just pick who i like :grinno:

Sure, we all do, it's part of being a fan. HOWEVER - you can't pick someone you like over someone you've NEVER seen, you have to simply pass on a prediction :)

Incidentally, contrary to what I have been saying about shogun, look for him to not be too impressive in his UFC debut. I've been told by a reliable source that he has hardly been traning for this fight, has had distractions, and hasn't looked too good in camp.

He'll still beat that bum Griffin though :D

lol, gotta love griffin though. I actually think that Silva is a decent fighter though, he stays pretty calm in the ring/cage, and i think thats what gets him through most fights. Alexander does look pretty good, he is a beast, we'll see what he's made of now that everybody knows he's there.

hamato - you're talking about Anderson Silva? He is a good fighter, I like watching him fight too. Very graceful, like a combat dove :D

Houston Alexander sure looks fun, I'd like to see him match up against top opposition. He is a steroid baby for sure.

To be honest, he just looks like an incredibly sloppy amateur boxer with a big punch. But then again, that's enough to have a lot of success in the UFC, just look at lidell. His striking is incredibly rudimentary. He is a sloppy striker with a good punch, and importantly - good takedown defense.

If someone polishes up Alexander's game, and trains him to have solid takedown defense, he could do pretty well in the UFC until he gets busted for roids.

I was talking about Anderson Silva (I thought you were too), am I to understand that you dont really care for Chuck Liddel?

Indeed I was yes.

I am not a chuck hater, in fact I respect what he has accomplished. But he is a poster boy for the UFC, and thus fairly overrated. He is a limited striker with a good punch and very good takedown defense, and a pretty crap chin. So with that in mind, he has been very successful.

To be honest I am still surprised he managed to beat Randy. Randy is a beast, and at the top of his game at age 46, it's incredible really. I have huge respect for him and Hopkins, for being able to be elite fighters at their age. Randy looked like a beast against Gonzaga.

I think Chuck has the one attribute that most UFC and even all MMA fighters dont have and thats patience. Very few guys can be in the ring/cage and be able to sit back and observe their opponent flailing around and not just flail back. I think Chuck has this, along with Silva and a few other guys. It shows how your ring presence can be just as helpful in the ring as your diversity in techniques and disciplines.
