From experience with doing co-ed hand to hand combatives training under a program designed by Royce Gracie, I'd have to say women aren't really equipped for doing the whole grappling thing.

Their physical attributes seem more fitted towards kick boxing and the like, just an opinion - though.

All of the women I observed in training, who were in very good physical condition, would tire out really fast doing all of the grappling and just didn't really have the physical ability to throw eachother around like guys do.

I agree with women being more apt towards kickboxing - I train with a few girls that could knock me out in mere seconds if they wanted to.

As far as grappling - yes and no - it probably depends on the individual female. Think of a Serena Williams type...she would probably do just fine. But for pure BJJ, isn't the whole idea with that involve the notion that you do NOT have to be big and strong to apply the technique and dominate your opponent on the ground? I think that women's MMA would basically be a stand-up match that goes to the ground for submissions, with less of the "ground and pound" that you see the men doing.

But yes, I do agree that women's sports in general (maybe with the exception of Tennis) are not as entertaining to watch as the men's version.

You want to elaborate on that?

Giving an opinion on something without any reason to back it up is a waste of time hehe

BJJ, like most martial arts base around the concept of mechanical knowledge of the body, rather than brute strength techniques you see in things like grecco roman wrestling. It still requires a very strong core and good shoulder strength to keep the upper hand on an opponent that is larger than you, and females simply don't have the upper body strength required to adhere to the techniques in a martial art designed by men.

What you most commonly see when women go to the ground in combatives, assuming they're equally skilled in what they're doing, is a lack of any real action. They'll just wrestle back and forth, but since they don't have the core strength (the same muscle structure simply does not exist, I'm not trying to downplay women as being weaker) you don't see an ability to apply fundamental techniques.

Now, if you get two women on the ground and one has a lot more training than the other, then yeah it works out great. But in general a woman's strength is in their dexterity, hips and legs. Most grappling is based around upper body strength and learning to use a persons body against them.

I hear you on that. I guess it would be like other women's sports - basically a less exciting version of the men's competition.

I'm sure we're offending lots of women by saying this, lol, but I'm not trying to be condescending to women at all either. What I'm saying is that those girls at the pro level are wayyyy better than say, me personally, but if you compare the pro men and the pro women, the men's version of the sport has better, more entertaining competition, that's all.

Although I do stand by women's Muaythai as being the same or nearly as entertaining as the men's....some of those chicks are very skilled fighters.

Anyone who's heavy into sports or competition can understand the differences between men and women in physical ability. It's a common misconception that when some one says men are better at somthing than women it's because they think women are the weaker sex, but it just has to do with physical build. It has nothing to do with being condescending or sexist.

just because i don't write boring long explinations on things doesn't mean i don't know what i'm saying.

i feel no need to explain my reasoning to you, i just thought i'd throw it in there because you can't have a debate by yourself although your having a good go at it :D
