UGF OR NO UGF

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm tellin' ya, you don't do it and get rid of it it's going to come around and bite you in your back side. It's not worth the risks in the long run. Take the cursed thing out before you regret it.

i started out with a UGF years and years ago, there is much better filtration you can use these days but add an internal filter as these are good for polishing your water.

Throw it out. I think they are worthless and just trap debris. I wouldn't do it while the fish are in the tank though. The garbage that will be stirred up will not be good for your fish.

When you do remove it, I would suggest doing a complete and thorough tank cleaning. Especially the substrate. Like sterilizing it on the stove top with tap water and added aquarium salt.

I gave 5 fish tanks. I use UGF with powerheads in all of them. I also have several Aquaclear 110s HOBS and Rena XP3 cannister filters. UGF is a good filter in my opinion. I would not trust Aquaclear 110 HOB or the XP3 cannister filter being alone filtering a tank.

But me being a independent thinker, I dont listen to all the hate about the UGF because I seen first hand how good the UGFs are compared to other filters.

go for Reverse UGF

Been thinking about taking the UGF out because it will take the tubes out so the fish dont hit them anymore and it will make cleaning easier. What do you guys think?

I prefer no UGF........

With the superior forms of filtration these days, it makes no sense to use one. It's like choosing to watch movies on VHS :)
