Ugh, we need fresh ray topics

I have a one retic in a 110 gallon pond right now and was thinking of building a larger filtration system for it, I was wondering if it would be better to build a stand to put the pond on and build a sump or make an overhead filtration system for it?

It's a double edged sword.

If you sump it the surface area of the pond makes the sump prone to overfilling. A couple inches in a pond adds up fast. Getting the drain to seal up can sometimes be problomatic. I would think this to provide better overall filtration though.

BUT if you use an overhead style filter you're churning the crap with a pump prior to mechanically removing it, making it much more difficult to remove.

Just part of the equasion. You should see the electricity and water bills.....

Water company usually calls every other month about "a leaking faucet, or toilet". Ususally I only get calls when it's over 11K gallons/month, but even at the heaviest months (20K gallons) water is still cheaper then treating a tank with meds...... lol

I had to go through and replace all my pumps with more efficient ones so I could try to bring my electric bill down to a weeks pay.

It sucks, but if you get home at the end of a bad day and the rays cheer you up it's worth it.

Wow 20k gallons of water per month just on fish tanks is a lot. I can imagine how expensive utilities would cost. I only use about 2k gallons of water per month for my fish tanks.

Maybe if I ran a 100 or even a 50 micron filter sock it would catch most of the debris if I ran an overhead? But I was thinking of a 55 for the sump so it would be pretty deep and not overflow... possibly haha

I currently have 5 rays. 2 p14's ( just fostering them) 2 Leo/hens and 1 Leo. The food bill is around 40 a month for all of them. I dread living in a larger house, as it stands right now I pay one flat fee for water no matter how much I use. But since I plan on having 15 or more rays in a few setups I know that bill when I go to a house with a meter is going to be killer.
