That's an awesome tank. I wouldn't reconfigure it, tall tanks are more visually appealing.

true, but 33" tall is still damn tall, and my stocking options would be greatly increased.

my current idea is to use a big panel, and put it where the now top is. of course the panel would stick up 15" past the top, BUT i can make the filter return cascade down the whole back, causing a waterfall. perhaps throw in some led's into the mix!

im seriously considering removing the front glass and buying a chunk of glass for the top. that way i can flip it on its back and have a 60x48x33.

The sides aren't tempered. Just remove the front pane and cut it to fit the top.

the front is 1" thick, im not cutting that. the back is 1/2", i would think it has to be tempered to hold up to 48" of water.

lol holy crap that tank is heavy. yeah 1" is out of average Joe hands unless you know how to score it, fire it and make the break. I'd use the 1" side as the bottom and remove the 1/2 inch side then call up a glass shop to see if they would cut it for you.
