African cichlids cannot fertilize SA/CA cichlid eggs.

I get it now, when you said you bought 2 parrots for your wife I assumed both had paired up. Nice though, now you get a lot Jellybean Parrots.

what in your opinion should i purchase to get my breeding going with this fish cause it lays eggs like crazy:nilly:

OP-you are using a convict is that right?

Yeah he using a convict. I'm gonna try with either my trimac or my bonsai flowerhorn but you can use most south and central american cichlids. I would say try a black/pink convict, jellybean parrot, king kong parrot, or a shortbody /bonsai flowerhorn. They seem to pair up with them the most. It also depends on how big your parrot is, it its a larger one then you could try a larger cichlid.

good luck with the fry
are you going to let nature take its coasre ?
or are you going to remove them with a turkey baster in to a pail with air and heat till they are big enough?

I'm not sure what I'm going to do just yet. I have a ten gallon up and running with some cherry shrimp in it, I suppose I could tossem in there... I think I'll probably get rid of the parrot though. I don't like how aggressive the male convict is. It's a 6ft tank, and he pretty much owns half of it.

So these fry are called Jellybean Parrots then?

Yeah, me too. I expect most of them will turn out pretty blah, but maybe some will turn out pretty cool looking.

Yeah, they are called Jellybeans because they dye them different colors so yours will be undyed Jellybeans parrots.

Not dyed

But yours will look a bit different because they from a black convict and not a pink.

I was just gonna say... I think Jellybean parrots are offspring from Pink convicts.

I do actually have two male 'platinum convicts' in this same tank, but they are much much smaller than the regular male. I suspect that the stripes will probably show quite a bit with these offspring.

how the heck do you "dye" a fish?

As far as I know, the dye is injected into the muscular tissue. Therefore it fades after time. It's not only a cruel practice, but it's result is not a permanent one. I've not, nor will I ever buy a dyed fish.
