Thx for the link KR, interesting (if gag worthy lol) info, that's the stuff of nightmares.

But it makes me think about dosing the tank with at least some praziquantel, which I've never done with the Dat/Flagtail tank.

I've suggested it a few times back then that new dats, particularly thinbars should be treated for parasites.

Well that was ugly. Went through this thread. It's like watching "Aliens". Will not show to wife. Want to keep my fish!

Cymothoa is the only parasite known to replace an organ in fish. Once it has eaten the tongue, it uses it's rear legs to anchor itself to the base muscles of the tongue. The parasites found replacing the tongue are females. Males are found attached to the gill arches.

Thanks for this thread K krichardson .

What I would like to understand is as far as medication goes, what would you recommend for newly acquired Dats while in quarantine?

Symptoms include restlessness, sunken belly, sometimes seen swimming near the surface only at one spot.. scratching against anything in tank BUT no visible white spots ever develop.
Fish respond to food everytime however is skinny irregardless.
I would suspect internal parasites.

Would like to hear your suggestion on this..

You're welcome.I've been a fan of copper based medications for parasite treatment....and praziquantel more recently.
