Adding some sand won't make it more quite?? I think black sand would look good, but then again this might defeat the purpose of what you were trying to do...

Drink more? LMAO

I couldn't have rays in my bedroom. IF they didn't have something to do on the bottom like blowing in sand or slammin rocks they'd be bobbing up and down at the surface seeing how hard they can slap the water's surface.

What was wrong with sand?

you are dead on, when i had other fish in there all night i could hear them splashing water trying to escape the wrath of the rays. And dont get me started on the bobbing.

THe white sand was so bright it glared, and made my tank look like crap IMO. Also it made my black rays spots yellow looking. It was never spread around flat it was only in the middle of the tank most of the time. I know i whine a lot, but i am picky on how my tank looks. I loved the black bare bottom when my tank was new, but the big ray has chewed up the bottom pretty bad. I will take it out tonight and may one day put black sand in there.

I thought that too, but i hate to add sand to it and it still be loud, it is hard enough to remove the gravel, much less if it was in sand too.
i know i cant do one more night of it.

I have always slept with a fan for the white noise. Maybe you should try that then you won't hear the gravel

i did that last night. it helped but my big girl was getting after it. She quit for a little while and started up. Top it off she is around 50 days prego again, and getting mean and hungry. I am tempted to move the tank to the garage but that is a huge job. Plus i have to take it out of a window to do it.

Given the situation I think I'd be looking to colored acrylic or marble tile for the bottom since it sounds like sand isn't an option, even though there's a lot more colors out there then just black, white, and natural.

The tank is acrylic and has black bottom. However black shows scratches. It looks ok tho
