UK FISH LAW, could you be prosecuted?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Imho those are trendy, politically correct, regulations. No way on earth ( US excepted ) is the the man power to control such blatant stupidity.

Imo the UK cant even deal with the dangerous dogs act , so controlling pet fish and its environment NO CHANCE :D
Just my opinion thrown in

Ok lets spin this a bit, if you go to a lfs and theres a 3ft rtc in a grubby 180 panting on the bottom with no water movement... would you/should you report them?

Think I would...

So if someone leaves a rtc to a lfs, they should just kill it?

We as pet owners should keep our pets well, but if we rely on laws to dictate who is giving proper care, stupidity is bound to happen.

I would talk to the owner first and get details. Said fish could have been dropped off just before you arrived. Now if this went on for 2 or 3 days yes I would report them they are not caring for this fish. Let me tell you what I meant earlier. A neighbor is visiting you and sees a 1 foot rtc in your 400 gallon tank to him this is wrong. He leaves your house and reports you is this right.

I would say not but you seem ok with this happening. When the authorities show up you better hope everything is perfect in your tank. Now don't tell me things like will never happen they do. In Alberta here people have drove by a farm saw a horse in a snow covered field and reported it to the SPCA. The SPCA shows up see the horse yep no food or water visible. They go in to talk to the farmer well guess what the do gooder didn't see the whole pen. In the back corner behind and out of sight is hay and a water bowl.

What I am trying to get out there is that laws like this are just the beginning of what is to come.

Fully agree with the two above posts.

We are turning intoa hamster society. Been sayingbthat for years.

I'd defo have something to say store manager would be gettin told , problem is in UK we see it all the time lots of crappy fish shops have a massive rtc , pacu etc in a tiny tank in a bad way , i have said many times in shops to staff and they just say something along the lines of "its only temporary" or "its being moved to another location that day " , we all know its bull#@!/ but what can we do i reckon the same excuse would come out time and time again :(

You can do nothing. Above all let us not turn outselves into Peta type persons, which is even worse imho.

What i do is stop going to that Lfs and spread the word. In my country that is enough.,i am enough bad publicity in the hobby.

But i would not go beyond that.

And sincerely, inkeep fish for forty plus years, but i get more schocked seeing puppies in glass cages than fish in tight spaces.

Well put Miguel.
