Ultra High Tech 300 gallon Discus install journal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like I've said, none of it necessary. I just dont agree it is a "waste".

What do I get for the money and time ?

automation and more automation
back-ups for the back-ups with warning systems to watch them all
longevity from using industrial/commercial grade hardware everywhere
completely silent aquarium in the center of the house
easy maintenance - all this stuff just looks complicated - when broken down into it's individual sub-systems and parts it's fairly straight forward and everything that needs to be maintained is easily accessible. The entire plumbing system will be able to be broken down and put back together with unions

non obtrusive install that looks like it was built with the house, not just some glass box of water shoved against a wall. Remember half my "cost" is in the custom surrounding bookcase.

I would have done a bigger tank, but it would have over powered the room. A 500+ gallon 36" front to back tank was the original plan, but it just would not fit and not look goofy.

I really am getting close now, lots of boring and time consuming detail work for now.

I love builds like this.

Lots of folks gave me the "what a waste " line while I was building my 300 but now that it's done for a few years it's amazing how little work it takes to maintain.

I sit back and enjoy. Which is important to me and why I did it the exact way I wanted.

Glad you're getting it the way you want! Awesome build

I didn't realize Half of that was just the woodwork. Not that bad when you take that out of the equation. How are you running auto water changer off the Apex? I have yet to hook mine up thru that. I'm still running off of my lawn sprinkler valves and timers. I am guessing I would run that thru the neptune breakout box somehow.

This thread is great, and I really love to see all the different types of technology that is being used. A lot of the gadgets may not be really required......but so is an aquarium if you think about it. rbarn seems to be very realistic about the whole build, and his thought process is well grounded........anyway its his money, his aquarium, his house so his rules. All the guys who seem to be negative, should just chill out get a bucket of popcorn and a coke and just enjoy the build..........By the way rbarn do you want to adopt me :o)

No Im a 40 year old guy who is losing his hair on his head, and growing it on other parts of his body.........
