Been doing water changes with a hose and bucket on over 30+ tanks changing 100s of gallons of water each week for over 30 years. I speak from experience - gunga din LOL!
The more you can sit back and enjoy the hobby, the better. I've got better things to do then lug buckets around to change water for years on end.
I travel for a living as well, so time is not something I chose to waste doing things unneccessarily and the old school bucket and hose just doesn't cut it for me, regardless of the years of experience or volume of water you've been doing it for. 36 years in the hobby has taught me a few tricks and shortcuts. My willingness to learn and evolve has made the hobby far more enjoyable for me personally. Maybe not for you, but that's ok too.
The more I automate, the more time I have to watch, photograph and collect different species. The more time I have with my family, other hobbies, travel....
Just because you don't understand why another person does what they do doesn't mean its wrong or pointless. Walk a mile in my shoes, come visit my fully automated garage setup and you just might see things a little more clearly.
Some of you may see it as unnecessary, but I've been on the road for almost 20 years at this point so I can sympathize with those who do see certain things as necessary.
You can ride your bike or walk to the grocery store to get dinner, but just because you can doesn't mean a car is unnecessary. Especially when it's raining outside and I'm in my car listening to music with my daughter, enjoying the experience.
To each his own
Great build by the way! I've learned quite a bit here.....
