Don't let it get to you, jealousy is the best form of flattery!

I enjoy the thread as well. I've just found myself wondering whether it really will be better for fish or easier to maintain than simpler approaches. It still has no fish in it, so the jury's still out...

Matt

I enjoy this post, sure I would not go out and spend the money on all the gear, more tanks for me haha but its still nice.

But it is your tank and your dream so I dont know why people have to have a negative attitude towards it, sure its overkill and some may see it a waste of money but thats your choice and if they cant respect it dont comment or look at the post its not rocket science. I am sure rbarn gets fed up hearing all this crap when his investing an awful lot of time and money into his dream so if you dont support it shuu.

And a lot of people will also argue we dont need such large aquariums to keep fish and we are crazy for doing so + wasting our money, yet we still do it why? its enjoyed by the individual. Everyone gets there kick out of life from doing different things theres no need to judge. We should be thankful the work is being shared with us in such great detail.

Been doing water changes with a hose and bucket on over 30+ tanks changing 100s of gallons of water each week for over 30 years. I speak from experience - gunga din LOL!

The more you can sit back and enjoy the hobby, the better. I've got better things to do then lug buckets around to change water for years on end.

I travel for a living as well, so time is not something I chose to waste doing things unneccessarily and the old school bucket and hose just doesn't cut it for me, regardless of the years of experience or volume of water you've been doing it for. 36 years in the hobby has taught me a few tricks and shortcuts. My willingness to learn and evolve has made the hobby far more enjoyable for me personally. Maybe not for you, but that's ok too.

The more I automate, the more time I have to watch, photograph and collect different species. The more time I have with my family, other hobbies, travel....

Just because you don't understand why another person does what they do doesn't mean its wrong or pointless. Walk a mile in my shoes, come visit my fully automated garage setup and you just might see things a little more clearly.

Some of you may see it as unnecessary, but I've been on the road for almost 20 years at this point so I can sympathize with those who do see certain things as necessary.

You can ride your bike or walk to the grocery store to get dinner, but just because you can doesn't mean a car is unnecessary. Especially when it's raining outside and I'm in my car listening to music with my daughter, enjoying the experience.

To each his own

Great build by the way! I've learned quite a bit here.....

I love this build and seeing all of the different possibilities that are out there if you so choose to pursue them. A setup like this may not be for everyone, but I would much rather have just one or two tanks of this caliber than 30+ bare tanks with sponge filters that I have to perform weekly maintenance on. That's my opinion though, it doesn't need to be shared by everyone. Keep up the great work rbarn and ignore the haters, I want to see what this is like fully complete.

I kind of like it. May have to ask for it for christmas next year. I wouldnt leave it in place all the time. Throw it on in the morning when leaving for work and back off when you get home. Come home to nice clean glass.

I can appreciate the mechanics of this build and your work looks top notch but man this is way overkill! For the 30k, I would have knocked a wall down and put an addition on the house and put a big tank in. I like the high tech gadgets and all but I don't get why it's all necessary. The apex with some add ons would have sufficed no? Enough with my opinion, my hats off to you and I cannot wait to see the finished product. Good job.
