This thread is making me laugh so hard right now!!!

Killer Ghost Shrimp! Now I've heard everything. I have seen a full grown ghost shrimp take down a weakened platy or guppy fry once in a while but there's no way in hell a single ghost shrimp, no matter how clever or hungry it is, is going to drag a betta down to the bottom of the tank. I imagine bettas would give ghost shrimp a pretty serious whopping if they got into a scrap.

I had about 20 ghost shrimp in a 33 gal with different fish at different times, including neons, harlequin rasboras, guppies and other small fish and they never got attacked by ghost shrimp. All that ended up happening was that ghost shrimp started to dissapear when my rosy barbs went in the tank. I assume when the shrimp were molting the barbs tore them to shreds. It wasnt until I took the barbs out that I even knew there were any ghost shrimp remaining alive.

Your fish would have to be in seriously bad shape for even a gaggle of ghost shrimp to take them down. Fish have a far greater muscle to body mass ratio and the clippers on ghost shrimp are tiny and fragile. I don't even see ghost shrimp being able to move fast enough to ambush a moving fish, despite their ability to dart about relatively quickly.

stress maybe hungry it sounds kinda funny no offense ghost shrimp going on killing spree

Ok now all the dead guppies and 1 dead baby bullhead is starting to seem like less the arowanas fault. I was wondering why he was killing them and not eating them...

As far as the ghost shrimp being able to kill things much larger than them if it is my shrimp that are doing it they killed a bullhead 3 times their size and there is only 8 shrimp about 1" a peice

I dunno about killing something 3 times their size though, seems kinda big for them! The "killings" are typically of smaller placid fish such as guppies and small tetras, though I've heard of platies getting whooped while swimming by!
But still 3 times their size seems a little too big in my opinion... but then they can always surprise us! :D

Ive heard of ghost shrimp eating fish from numerous reports... about 3 haha, I believe its possible, It'd be the coolest thing in the world to see it though.

I dont think it is possible for the ghost shrimp to take down the betta unless the betta itsself is already so sick and about to die anytime..
those shrimp might probably have a kind of sense that the betta is going down and thats why they had been eyeing on it..
thats what i think..
I always believe that animal have alot kind of senses that human have not discovered it yet..

Hahahahha.......I HIGHLY doubt your ghost shrimp are killing ANY of the fish. They are probably eating the dead/dying bodies because you might not be feeding them enough.

Well, I agree that the idea of them taking down a grown fish is just no tplausible, but I have watched ghost shrimp stalk and eat baby tetras and livebearers.
