It's not you or your fish, all you did was post a video from the internet.

I think people should see it. How many threads do we see about who's the meanest or best fighter or which cichlid could kick who's ***. It's on here constantly, most of the time we answer the threads with thoughts and opinions, so we perpetuate the mystique of "what would happen if". It’s a natural thought when keeping big powerful cichlids to wonder “what would happen if”. Acting on that thought is what separates fish keepers that truly care about the health and well being of their fish from uneducated thrill seekers out for their own amusement with no regard for the life of their animals whether it be fish, dogs, chickens or anything else.

I for one along the vast majority on this site take very good care of my fish to the point of obsessing over a split fin or missing scale. One fish starts to chase another one too much and in my mind I’m figuring out how I can rearrange my entire stock to create the perfect harmonious balance. Some people have no regard for life and the beauty of these large majestic fish we love so much. So the next time somebody wants to know “what would happen if” show them this video, it’s not so pretty when the question really gets answered. Is it? There’s my two cents for what it’s worth.

exactly, i couldn't agree more.

This is a very poor set up. 2 male CA cichlids in a small tank with no other cichlid tankmates and a couple pacus which simply get way too large for most aquariums. The low water level is an indication that a lot of water is evaporating between water changes ----- so it doesnt' look like much water is being changed. The haze in the tank probably indicates poor water quality.

In general, CA cichlids are not delicate fish. There is no way a fish should die from a little lip injury. I've kept aggressive cichlids for over 3 decades now, and seen all kinds of scraps. Sometimes their is an injury resulting from the encounter. On a few occasions, over the years, some of the injuries I have witnessed were very severe ----- 10X worse then what is shown in the video, yet the wounds usually heal very quickly. NO infection ever set in ----- and I NEVER had a fish die as the result of injury from a fight. Of course if a fish is being chased and harrassed it has to be removed ASAP. A fish under stress, even with a very minor injury, will likely develope an infection and possibly die. And bad water quality definately doesn't help.

From my perspective, one fight is no big deal. There is aggression in ALL fish tanks ---- even a guppy tank. No community tank exists with out some kind of aggression. In a cichlid tank, territory and a position in the pecking order generally doesn't come for free. But when you have 2 rival male CA cichlids in the same tank and one loses a scrap you'd better keep a close eye on the tank and be ready to remove a fish right away!

If you listen to this guy you can tell what an absolute idiot he is!!1st he loses power, instead of trying to get his power up and running he watches his fish fight,2nd he lets his umbee rip a hole in the Trimacs head(i would have seperated them at least at that point)so after the fight the trimac probably killed the pacus,if the umbee died of an infection from a bite on its lips, what happened to the Trimac with a hole in its head??He probably lost all his fish within a month lol.

Wonder what would happen if we put this guy in a elevator with a pissed off steroid juiced boxer and locked the door... I think he'd die of a infection... Or maybe just trauma?

Welcome to my block list.:banher:

Don't know why you'd want to blocklist the OP. I personally thought it's to be used for people who troll. I don't think the OP was looking to offend anyone, nor have I seen the OP post useless thread after thread.

Maybe there is a place for vid's like this for educational purposes for NOOB's. It's a perfect example of what not too do in this hobby and the repercssions of such actions.
1. You should alway's get as much info as possible before mixing fish and if there's a chance of aggression a spare tank should alway's be on hand in case aggression levels get out of hand.

2. How small tank size can affect aggression levels between fish. With no escape from aggression and the no ability to create territory can create a serious problem. So it's not only that small tanks stunt growth they can cause lethal levels of aggression.

3. Plus how the poor condition of the water quality(which was also caused by too high a bio-load in too small a tank) led to a infection that should never kill a fish as hardy as a Umbee. Seriously cichlids in general are more forgiving of water quality issues than alot of other fish. How bad was the water quality to kill this Umbee.

Let's just make this a learning experience. Also just incase, don't let my comment about cichlids being tolerant of poor water quality be a reason to put them in a poorly maintaned tank. It's just that I feel that many of them are a good beginner fish for someone new to the hobby to consider due to their hardiness. Not an excuse to abuse these beautiful fish.
