It's also sultan fish in the markets; it's a food fish.

I'm looking for a new home for mine, he's over a foot now and in a 18" wide tank he seems a bit cramped.

One nice thing about mine is that he doesn't make a mess of the plants, wood, decor in the tank the way other big barbs like tinfoils do. Tinfoils I've kept constantly knocked stuff loose with their swimming, like the heater...the hoevenii barb is a lot calmer.

My Cigar has the tendancy to attack my Golden-Redtail Barb, doesn't touch my Oscar, Jack Dempsey, Green Terror, or even My Goldfish. He's rele calm in the tank either then when I moved him he jumped out of the bucket on me, couldn't take my eye off him. Either then that my Cigar & my Oscar are the untouched by any other of my fish.

Yea, we also call them golden sharks here too. They are everywhere here. I used to own some. I had 4 that 12-14 inch but got rid of them once they destroyed my 190 gallon tank(they knocked the center brace off) ... need I say more?

Had a friend get one up to 18inches and have seen them around 2 feet in zoos.

looks like leptobarbus hoevenii, gets up to 20" has a good appetite, eat's mostly veggies, insects, krill, and pellets. very active, a fast grower. And will eat ur live plants also... so be careful.

My Shark is extremely active, goes after my Golden Red-Tail Barb, and he just loves to eat Carnivore Pellets, he also goes for floating sinking pellets, but he gives alot of attention to the tank.

Cichlidscotty, what are the other fish in the tank with the orange netting?

My cigar is about 13 inches now
