Now i don't live in the states, but i can imagine without the licenses a lot of the rivers would probably run out of fish for people to catch, since they would probably disregard the fact that they should fish within moderation and not catch more then they need...

So in a way you pay to have your rivers protected from being over fished so that YOU and others like you can go back time and time again to enjoy them when you have free time...

btw I believe you can drink at the age of 18 on a military base, the drinking age at 21 is a state restriction

This is just what happens when a country reaches a certain age, you get a lot of outdated unfair laws(Personally I don't think the 20 dollars is too bad). I actually think we should put more tax money into our parks and wildlife.

It does help fund research on commercially important species....MP could have just give him a warning or gave him the poles back when he paid for the license. Esp if he did not know you need one to fish.

Fish and game laws are some of the most violated and also the least enforceable due to the areas required to be patroled. When you get caught breaking a fish and game law in most any state they are not going to take it easy on you.

I had to chuckle quite a bit while reading this thread.

The naive thought that if you buy a bit of land you can do whatever you want and never having to worry about government laws was hilarious. After the third year of trying to pay your property taxes with vegetables and illegally obtained fish and game Uncle Sam would be auctioning off your land and be giving you three square meals a day and a bed to sleep in for a few years.

I feel the DNR is under funded and have no problem paying for licenses and stamps to hunt and fish. You should be pissed at your brother. Ignorance is no defense in court of breaking a law. At 18 in the USA you should know you need a license to fish and hunt he just felt he could get by with it. Good thing he wasn't borrowing your car at the time.

DNR makes their money on hefty fines, not on meager license fees. To them, "you are the fish" they are trying to catch and fine.

I hate paying for mine but I never catch anything so I should be mad. Sorry about your brother, they should really let teenagers fish for free, they are so dangerous doing everything else.
