I've tried a few times but could never get to the end of that one.

City of God has been mentioned but City of men was pretty good too (the film, I haven't seen the tv series).

Saints & Soldiers is a good WW2 film, and although WW2 themes have been over-saturated, this one is good in the same way band of brothers was good.

I really liked Blow, Tombstone and the 13th Warrior (yes the one with antonio banderas )too. Oh and Mystic river, although I read the book of that first-still good though.

I liked 13th Warrior for the way they depicted Vikings as professional soldiers with skill. How else would a full time marauder act?

Somebody say Vikings?
Erick the Viking.

Found these while I'm waiting for the Gas company.
When I first saw this it was my first time drunk and high simultaneously in public.
I laughed so hard I peed my pants. Smoothly covered by spilling my coke on myself.
Coke a cola.

Brotherhood of the Wolf

This one came from France. Don't worry, you'll be hearing English.
The only reason you will know it did not come from the North American cookie cutter is...it keeps smacking you in the face with originality (or at least it's stealing from movies I haven't seen) and skill.
A strange mix of familiar fable, voodoo, kung fu hustle and monster flick.
Among the best of the best werewolf movies, except that it's not...well I won't spoil the ending.
Take a look in your foreign section. Start with France. Then China. Then India.
Makes North American cinema as interesting as dead smelly fish.
...and toss in some Eastern Europe, and South America once in a while.
Oh, Africa kicks out a gem now and then.

One of my all time favorites, and cult classics is Dark City.. Great Sci-Fi. I can't tell any one much about this one because it is a great story that leaves you guessing till almost the end.

Yesterday

From Africa. African cinema is surprisingly similar to Canadian. Because neither one has money for car chases and fire balls. So they both just tell stories about people.
Spray some water on the lawn and this could be my home town. If we had any black people.
But the Africans have better cameras. CBC is so cheap!
Don't worry that it was nominated for best foreign language film. My version was English.
