Underrated Monster Fish ?

is this fish a freshwater fish? really looked weird.

Full freshwater and brackish, it is the Kurtus gulliveri from N.Australia, Indonesia, and New Guinea. It is apparently a tasty foodfish and is not endangered or rare. Looks like it has been skinned. I have never seen one in person but I would love to have a couple in a tank.

My personal favorites, which are also not very common in the hobby, MONSTER CYPRINIDS!
Hampala, Tor, Bangana, Catlocarpio just to name a few. You would be suprised how tough a fish with no teeth can be, especially the Mahseers. Wes aka: Fugupuff can tell you a great story about his Cyprinid tank resorting to "mob violence" to attack some unwanted newcomers.

as far as monster cichlids go -- i think the emperor cichlids of Africa are fairly underrepresented -- you always see peacock bass, dovii, jags, etc but these truly monsterous cichlids are rarely seen

But what are the monster fishes that you think are not represented well in the hobby? Give us and example and convince us why we should pay more attention to that particular species.

Stizostedion lucioperca (pikeperch) - tasty

Silurus glanis (European catfish) - eats everything that fits in its mouth - including ducks.

I'm not sure if anyone of you has a Northern pike or muskellunge in his/her tank ?! These are biggies, too...

Bottom line: cold water predators!

Yeah emperor cichlids are definitely not on the radar. Kind of a shame because they are pretty majestic at big sizes.

I like mackeral cichlids too... and emporers. I've seen both for sale from Wes though.
