When I add a post to a thread concerning a question, I answer according to my own experience. I don't consider myself an expert by any means. I learn something new about fish keeping all the time, and not only from this site. Books, magazines, various websites, and trial and error are all great assets in this hobby. Post counts don't really equate to the level of education on aquarium matters. Proven advice and documented experiences are far greater. But that being said, many people will naturally gravitate to those on this site that they know, trust, or share an established a rapport. You really don't know what people are actually doing in their own homes. They could say they are doing 50% water changes or that they have a 400 gallon tank, but who really knows? People do what they want with the advice given. Some accept it while some totally ignore it for whatever reasons they have. I agree that sometimes established members can be short and condescending to new members. I don't think that kind of interaction is necessary. But then there are times when new members take any advice that may differ from their beliefs as being rude or mean when that is not the case at all. Bottom line, MFK is not the pinnacle of aquarium education. It is like all other great tools on the net, it requires some scrutiny, common-sense, and self-awareness. I don't believe that anyone should gather all of their education from one source. I say that with all respect. I love this site and it is my favorite site dedicated to the hobby but there are many other sources to gain knowledge about fish keeping. Letting comments or threads on this site discourage you from learning or advancing in this hobby should never be entertained.
