We caught a species of Parachromis in Honduras this past April. To date the fish is undescribed...as in unknown. Rusty Wessel recently sent fin clippings out for DNA analysis. We will know for sure in a couple months. Rusty brought back a pair of the adults. I have three dozen of the juveniles.

Here is the original Unk. Parachromis from the Rio Truhillo, years back:

A couple things could happen. It might be just a managuense morph, it could ossibly be a naturally occuring hybrid...and it could be something new entirely. Years back another unkown species was collected by some well know aquarists. The question is...is this the same parachromis collected as back then. And it looks like that is very possible. The DNA will tell the tale.

Here's a male and female adult that were caught by my friend Warren. Awesome fish. He caught a larger male the day before. This is the pair that went home with Rusty. We caught most of the babies in near swamp like water with overgrown mangrove roots and no moving water.:

I brought back a half dozen larger fish (1" )...and a 36 of the half inch. This fish grew incredibly fast. I put it in a divided 75 gallon tank with four other same species (but much smaller) fish.

So far one made it to the side with the bigger fish and was eaten. Two on the other side are being terrorized by the largest over there. The two are making nice through the egg crate. Here's the smaller...now growing much larger fish.

Solid gold beauty:

The fish's behaviour is typical Parachromis....should be a real beauty no matter what the results.

Wow, I can't believe that it is still undescribed. I heard about these guys and saw pics along time ago but I can't believe they still haven't been described.

They are really good looking fish. I would mind keeping a few.

Rusty gets all the cool fish. He's a member of my fish club and has come in and has been a speaker a couple times about his collecting trips, and he always brings in fish I have never seen before to sell.

I shall name them ewurm or the latin name Giganuts LMAO :screwy:
no more drinking for me

These look like Jag juvies to me, and Jag juvies alone - not even any hybrids.
Why would this not be a real Jag ? I see there every noticable feature one normally associates a Jag with.
Sorry if I am sounding naive. But would love it if someone can highlight to me the real difference (if at all there is any) out here.
