Its never a good sign when you can't find the 17 inch ornate in your tank. Took me twenty minutes to locate him under furniture. He was a live when I found him, but didn't make it. Guess what i want to share is don't under estimate how powerful some of these bigger polypterus are. The tank is very well covered and he popped the plastic fitting thing off the back of the glass lid. I have had polypterus for a long time and this is the second one I lost to jumping. I still have no clue how the first one got out of the tank. So go check your lids!

I have had this happen to a delhezi of mine as well. When I found him he was still very "moist" and alive. I put him in the tank and notice his slime coat was messed up, his fins showed some damage, and some cuts around his face. He was in tank for about 5 more hours until he died.

I am just wondering if there is anything we can do in those situations where you find a bichir alive on the floor. I know it happens a lot and I hope there is something we can do to maybe save these guys.
